Miyajima travel guide
A visit to Miyajima raises a handful of linked questions: how to cross from Hiroshima, how long to give the island, and whether to sleep there or return to the city for the night.
Start with Hiroshima to Miyajima, which compares JR and the ferry, the flat-fare tram and the direct boat from the Peace Park, and mentions the visitor tax. Then is Miyajima worth it covers the shrine, the ropeway and how the tide decides whether you can walk out to the torii.
If you are unsure where to base yourself, where to stay: Hiroshima or Miyajima explains what an island night gives you, such as the quiet evening and the early shrine opening, and when a hotel downtown or by Hiroshima Station is the easier choice.
