About Japan Trip Navi
Who runs Japan Trip Navi, why it exists, and how every figure on the site is checked.
Japan Trip Navi is a practical travel guide to Japan for international visitors. It answers the decisions a traveller has to make before and during a trip: how to get from the airport, which pass or ticket to buy, how a procedure works, what something costs and when it is open — in Tokyo, and just as much in the regions beyond it.
Who runs this site
I’m Moto. I grew up in Hiroshima Prefecture and now live in Tokyo. Travelling around Japan has always been one of my favourite things to do, and I have spent a lot of my free time on trips across the country.
After moving to Tokyo, I came to see how many people from abroad are drawn to Japan. Tokyo has a great deal to offer, but I think it would be a shame to stop there: the regions across Japan have their own character, wonderful places and scenery of their own.
I started Japan Trip Navi to help people who are curious about Japan get to those places with confidence — to answer the practical questions that stand between a traveller and a trip to Hiroshima, Kanazawa, the Iya Valley or Hokkaido, not only to Tokyo.
How the guides are made
Each guide answers one concrete question and is built from official and primary sources: the railway or bus operator, the venue itself, the local government or tourism board, and national agencies. Many of these are published only in Japanese, and reading them in the original is a large part of the work; the guide then explains them in plain English.
Every figure, date and rule in a guide is tied to a source listed at the end of the article. Before a guide is published, each figure is checked against its source. Each guide shows the date its sources were last checked. When a fact cannot be confirmed, it is left out rather than guessed.
The guides describe what the sources say. They do not present visits or stays that did not happen as first-hand experience.
Advertising and affiliate links
The site is funded by display advertising and, where relevant, affiliate links to booking services. Affiliate links are always labelled, and the recommendations in a guide never depend on them. See the privacy policy for how advertising partners use data.
Corrections and contact
If you find an error or something has changed, please use the contact page. Corrections are made in the guide itself, and its review date is updated.
